“And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years” (1:14)
An apparent endorsement of astrology,
God places the sun, moon, and stars in the firmament so that they can be used “for signs”.
Abraham was born in the city of Ur in Babylonia in the year 1948 from Creation (circa 1800 BCE). He was the son of Terach, an idol merchant.
The night before Abram was born, King Nimrod’s astrologers were gathered at Terah’s house. Looking out into the night sky, they read in the constellation of the stars that the newly born child was to become the chief and the father of a mighty nation.
From his early childhood, Abraham questioned the faith of his father and sought the truth. He came to believe that the entire universe was the work of a single Creator GOD and he began to teach this belief to others.
Abram had watched the sun and the moon and the stars coming and going, each in its own time. He had noticed the sun giving way to the moon, despite its apparent divine power, and the moon giving place to the sun in the morning.
And so Abraham reasoned that there must be a power above and beyond all the visible forces of nature, an entity Who had created them, and Who regulated and controlled them at all times. Behind the limited power of all nature, young Abraham perceived the unlimited and timeless existence of God.
Then GOD made Himself known to Abraham and taught him the right way of living. Abraham came to KNOW that there is one God, the creator Who is in control of everything but he could not understand what God was all about until He appeared to him by prophesy. From this time on the Hebrew know of and believed in prophesy.
And He took him outside and said, “Now look toward the heavens, and count the stars, if you are able to count them.” And He said to him, “So shall your descendants be.”Genesis Chp 15/5.
It is known that our forefather Abraham’s knowledge of astrology attracted all the kings of East and West to consult with him daily. Abraham was first the most competent astrologer, at that time that God let him to live under the zodiacal system. On page 83 of Josephus_ Antiquities 1:166-168, it is written “ The Egyptians were addicted to a variety of different customs and disparaged one another’s practices and were consequently at enmity with one another, Abraham conferred with each party and, exposing the arguments which they adduced in favour of their particular views, demonstrated that they were idle and contained nothing true. Thus gaining their admiration at these meetings as a man of extreme sagacity, gifted not only with high intelligence but with power to convince his hearers on any subject which he undertook to teach, he introduced them to arithmetic and transmitted to them the laws of astronomy. For before the coming of Abraham the Egyptians were ignorant of these sciences, which thus traveled from the Chaldaeans into Egypt, whence they passed to the Greeks.”
Abraham foresaw in the stars that he should not have any descendants, but GOD said to Abraham, saying you shell not look it too the wisdom of the stars, but in to the secrete wisdom of my name, there you will find out the future.
Abraham left the influence of the stars, since he become blessed to be above the zodiac impact. Abraham the Astrologer foresaw in the stars that he should not have any sons in his destiny, Abraham told God what he predicted about his descendants, than God took him out and told Abraham look at the stars and try to count them, as much stars are in the sky as much will be your descendants, from now you (Abraham) are above the influence of the zodiac system.
When God revealed Himself to Abraham, one of the first things that He told him was that his fate, and that of his descendants, transcended the influence of the constellations. Therefore, Abraham should not be concerned with astrological predictions.
Abraham was called the Ivri (lit. “the transcendent one”), as he was the first to be able to go beyond the astrological influence transcending and directing it.
God taught Abraham the secrets of His Divine names, and how to manipulate the Alf Bet characters, since that point in time, Abraham was a prophet receiving his knowledge as a direct communication with the God, By knowing God’s names secrets and powers, strength and might and how to work with these. He was given permission.
Abraham the books “Safer Yetzera” “The Book of Creation”, this book outlines the influence not only of the stars and the constellations familiar to Western Astrology. In the book also is a way to be a partner with God in the work of the providence of creation, by influencing astrology its self. The forces it bestows. This book is written like a book of codes, and those codes are the secrets of the time and space, all the hidden secrets of the universe.
How ever although Abraham changed his way ( since he was not under the influence of the zodiacal system), a great respect to Astrology still remains..
To understand the power of the stars properly, we should explore them from the Torah’s perspective. The Hebrew word mazal refers to the unique spiritual forces that influence natural phenomena great and small.
Our Sages teach, “There is no blade of grass in the world below that does not have a spiritual life-force (mazal) above striking it and telling it to grow”. Another definition of mazal is constellation, or more specifically, the spiritual influences associated with the signs of the Zodiac.
Though Abraham was expert in astrology and used it to determine that he was destined to remain childless. God, however, had other plans, and blessed him with offspring as numerous as the sand and.. ..stars!. Thus instead of Abraham conforming to his mazal (astrological influence), G- d made his mazal conform to him. God channeled higher energies to him through visiting him on Passover, sending him to the Holy Land, and changing his name.
Changes in time, space, and soul affect one’s mazal. Weddings are often set for Tuesday, a day of good mazal. Also, when people move into a new home, the traditional blessing is “when you change your residency, you change your mazal, for good and blessing” To improve their mazal, seriously ill people will add a name.
None of this is superstitious, idolatrous, or occult. All those things are both foolish and forbidden by Torah. What we are doing is acknowledging that spiritual forces are at the beck and call of the Creator just as physical forces are. The God has his ways in which he has set his world to function and it is good to know them. Much of the story of the Exodus from Egypt is based on Astrology.
During the period of the Exodus from Egypt, the astrological sign dominating the era was Aries the ram. This is why a lamb, related to the ram was the Paschal sacrifice. The lamb was the main God of the Era to the Egyptians and so the Hebrews killed it in the month of its greatest dominance, Aries the ram dominates the Hebrew month of Nisson. The month of Passover. This “mazal” dominated events for 2,000 years, from about the time of Avraham until the time of the destruction of the Second Temple. This was a time of severe judgment, for Aries is ruled by the planet Mars, who rules over blood. The epoch of Taurus the bull is what preceded the epoch of Aries. According to the astrologers, it was during the epoch of Taurus that Adam first walked the earth. The Erev Rav therefore considered this to be an auspicious sign. Thus, when they chose an image that they wished to represent GOD, they took the image that they thought was the highest and most powerful image. They could not conceive that GOD was above images and astrology.
God places the sun, moon, and stars in the firmament so that they can be used “for signs”
The Bible is full of this
There are influences also of sub categories of time as day, the 50th Jubilee year, 7th Sabbath year, years, months, weeks, hours. All connected with time revolves around one concept yhv’h, which has 12 permutations. The 12 Borders are its 12 permutations, 12 hours day and night, 12 months. 12 “simple letters”. At the 4 equanox of the year a sound arises from the 4 corners of the world through which the other side is stirred up. It also blocks the flow of light from on high. This is because the voice above cannot meet the voice below. As the left side come between the 2. This interposing sound is that of war, evil forces. Only Yushua ben Nun (Joshua) could hear this sound as it comes from the evil power that blemishes the moon. Yoshua was from the aspect of the moon so could hear it, while Moses was from the sun so he couldn’t.
The general Idea is that time is a fluid contimuam that we need to work with the Divine influxes of Holiness when they come like the Sabbath and Biblical Holidays and we need to fill our hours, days and years with Holiness by our thoughts speech and actions.
“And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years” (1:14)
In Kabbalah there are described two distinct concepts of time: the time of the lower world (zman tachton) and the time of the higher worlds (zman elyon). Lower time “flows”, with the past gone and the future yet to come. Higher time is eternal: past, present and future co-exist simultaneously.
The theory of relativity describes a four-dimensional space-time continuum, with three dimensions of space and one of time. The time dimension in the space-time continuum shares basic properties with the Higher time of Kabbalah . In classical thermodynamics, time is a unidirectional arrow that shares basic properties with the Lower time of Kabbalah.
One aspect of the war between the Jews and the Greeks, that ended with the Jewish victory celebrated in Hanukah, was about the meaning of time. For the Greeks time was a sequence of events, or its measurement. For the Jews, time is the injection of Divine providence into space.
The Kabbalah teachs that time originates from two simultaneous rhythms: “Mati lo mati” (Reaching down and not reaching down) a movement of Divine energy from the higher realms to the lower realms and back, and “ratzo va’ shov”, the movement of the soul from the lower to the higher realms, and back.
Space was created first, and time was “drawn” into space. In general, space embodies our ordinary reality, and time “informs” space. Divine providence shapes reality (space) through the dimension of time.
At the level of the soul and human behavior, time has critical importance for our actions. Kohelet (King Solomon’s book Ecclesiastes) teaches that there is a time for everything. The two most important collective sins of the Jewish people, the eating from the tree of Knowledge and the building of the golden calf, happened because of an inability to wait for the right time. The all-important process of rectification, teshuvah (repentance), bridges Lower time with Higher time. True repentance shifts our actions from Lower to the Higher time, where past, present and future co-exist. This is the mechanism whereby teshuvah can physically transform a past transgression into a good deed, and darkness into light.

After GOD told Avraham that his decedents shall be as the stars of the sky its said that he had Faith in GOD and it was counted for him as Righteousness. This contains an important lesson. As the mitler Rebbe said peace unto him, Emuna (faith) is the Yesod (foundation-gateway of energy) of every Mitzvah. Or as the Maharall of Prague explains in Givurot GOD that it is a person’s faith which sustains him in all his endeavors. Or as we can learn out from our verse ” He had faith in Yhv”h and it was counted to him as Righteousness”. The Zohar tells us that sedek (Righteousness) is Yesod (foundation-gateway of energy). Yesod being as a gate allowing varying degrees of revelation. The degree is determined by the extent of ones emuna . It is through this that we can be as the Malbim understands the Jewish people ”a mighty force”. Meaning for the revelation of GOD’s light in the world. The Yesod is where the stars interact in what is called astrology. We are taught The 248 limbs of the king (bones) are part of the sefirot “yosher”, above nature, above astrology dictated by the stars.1Certain aspects of time are established by the planets , stars and constellations. There influence is described in astrology. The stars and planets physical bodies dress the sefirot of Atzilut. Yesod is the most hidden part of the body. Becouse of this its work is hidden, and called rekia. In it are the stars and constellations. The Chassadim of the 5 fingers of the hand can touch in the Yesod arousing with in it.2 The influence of time exists but time is what we make of it. Yisrael can rise above the celestial influence of astrology, or fall beneath its benefit from sin. The arrangement of astrology (mazel) is according to the Divine service of Yisrael. Especially according to their alignment with the kingship of GOD on RoshHashanah. The 70 nations nullify, God forbid, nullify the nanhagot (divine providence) of Yisrael measure for measure (through Yisrael’s errors and lackings). Flow of הכל אדון upon the creations is according to the arrangement of the stars and mazolot (constellations). Yisrael is above this level of Divine supervision by their Unity with GOD throught the will of GOD in the Torah.3
Being as Avraham foresaw when seeing the heifer, goat and ram were divided in half when a thick darkness fell, a smoking furnace and a torch of fire passed between them dividing them. The smoke and fire being emissaries of the Shechinah. The darkness and fire being the same which was revealed at Sinai. This act of dividing the 2 carcasses is a pact demonstrating that 2 parties are a one. Through the cloud, smoke and fire. The Chuchmah of GOD’s Torah. At Sinai there was cloud, smoke and fire as its written :
“These words the Lord spoke to all your assembly in the mount out of the midst of the fire, of the cloud, and of the thick darkness, with a great voice which was not heard again. And he wrote them in two tablets of stone, and delivered them to me.” (deut 19:5)
“And Mount Sinai was altogether in smoke, because the Lord descended upon it in fire; and its smoke ascended as the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mount trembled greatly.”(ex18:19)
We also see a covenant made in a cloud after the flood as its written :
“I set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a sign of a covenant between me and the earth.” ( 13:9Gen)
We also see the the cloud, smoke and fire as GOD’s force in the Desert as its written :
“ And the Lord went before them by day in a pillar of a cloud, to lead them the way; and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light; to go by day and night” (ex 21:13)
It was these same forces that protected Yisrael and led the Egyptians to destruction as its written:
“And it came between the camp of the Egyptians and the camp of Israel; and it was a cloud and darkness to them, but it gave light by night to these; so that the one came not near the other all the night. And it came to pass, that in the morning watch the Lord looked to the army of the Egyptians through the pillar of fire and of the cloud, and brought confusion to the army of the Egyptians,”(20-24:14Ex)
We also see the mystery of the cloud, smoke and fire as GOD’s force in :
“And I looked, and, behold, a stormy wind came from the north, a great cloud, and a fire flaring up, and a brightness was around it, out of its midst, as the color of amber, out of the midst of the fire. Also out of its midst came the likeness of four living creatures. And this was their appearance: they had the likeness of a man. And everyone had four faces, and everyone had four wings.” (Ezek 4-6:1)
This is the Mystery of the Markava (chariot). The deepest of secrets.
Only because of this oneness created through our covenant with GOD are we compared to the stars through which GOD guides mazel the providence of creation. So too, each of us continue to take part in the creation which is continual. It is up to us whether Mashiach will come to us because of our great suffering in wars, or He will show his glory miraculously to the world without Yisrael needing to suffer at all.
A way of revealing this oneness revealing the shechinah hastening the Mashiach’s arrival is shown by Melchizedek king of Shalem who brought forth bread and wine and then blessed Avraham in the name of GOD maker of the Heaven and earth. This is similar to what we do every Shobot when we have bread on our table and we make a blessing on wine in Kidush in the name of GOD remembering the work of creation. The future is set in motion with Avraham’s decedents promised the land of Israel, and their nature as said before will be a mighty force. While the decedents of Yishmoyal (the Arab states) are given their blessing ” And he will be a wild man; his hand will be against every man, and every man’s hand against him” (16:12). This makes it clear that our Arab neighbors are not a people that GOD has blessed with the quality of being a cooperative, brotherly, understanding, compassionate people of peace. But their nature is quite the opposite. Violence being a major role of theirs in the world. It is from this understanding that we should deal with them. If he is blessed by GOD to be a maniac can we hate what GOD has intended him to be ?. Should we hate the mentally ill if their disposition is violent ?. Or should they be cured of their mental illness. One thought should never be fooled by Yishmoyal’s facade it he talks as a peaceful people. It is clear that our Arab neighbors are not people that GOD has blessed with the quality of being a cooperative, brotherly, understanding, compassionate people of peace. But their nature is quite the opposite. Violence being a major role of theirs in the world. It is from this understanding that we should deal with them. But violence is best avoided we should seek peace first. Violence is only a last resort.
As GOD said to Avraham ”I will give of you to the nations”. The Hamak Hadavar explains this as meaning that you will be a teacher of wisdom to the nations. Concerning the words ” Kings shall come from you” the Hamak Hadavar explains Kings will come from the decedents of Avraham who will suppress the idolatry of the nations” May we see this completely realized with the arrival of the King know as Mashiach quickly in our days !

All the supernal forces that govern the various countries and cities of our world are brought to light by the Zohar. Abraham masters the knowledge concerning all these diverse metaphysical intelligences that rule and administer over the cosmos. However, the Creator tells him not to direct his mind towards these supernal matters. Rather, Abraham should focus upon his spiritual work in this physical realm, placing his trust in the Creator regarding the workings of the metaphysical dimension. Spirituality is to make the world a better place where the God is more revealed. It is not a escape from this world, though one receives great delight from this spiritual work, and it gives one more joy and pleasure in all that they do !
The great sage Hillel, who was asked to reveal all the supernal mysteries and secrets of the Torah in the short time that he can remain standing on one leg. “Love thy neighbor as thyself. All the rest is commentary. Now and go and learn,” the sage replied. From this attitude we begin our “spiritual work”, It is the true beginning. With out this one will have nothing.
“Now Hashem said to Abram, Get you out ” According to Rabbi Elazar go out for yourself, to fulfill yourself and complete your grade. “Get you out,” for you must not stay here among the wicked. The secret “Get you out” is that the Holy One, blessed be He, inspired Avraham with the spirit of wisdom. He knew how to judge the spirits of the civilized world. He observed them, weighed them in the scales, and knew how to connect them to the powers entrusted to govern the inhabited places on earth. When he reached the middle point of civilization, he weighed it in the scales, but could not reach any conclusion. He tried to see and to know what sort of power governed that place, but could not conceive it. He weighed a few more times before realizing that the whole world sprouts from that place and is established upon it. He observed carefully, and measured, so as to understand the subject, and concluded that the supernal force above it could not be measured, that it is deep and hidden, and that it does not resemble the different parts of the inhabited land. He watched attentively, weighed, and realized that the middle point of the inhabited world is the point from which the whole world moves out to all its corners. Similarly, he knew the power that now prevails over the point. all other powers that govern the corners of the world originate from that point and all energies hold to it.
From the Temple mount at the place called the Even stiyah (stone of drinking), called the foundation stone. Abraham later would bring Isaac to sacrifice, till God told Him not to. Here is where the “Dome of the rock” is. From here a Beam of supernal light descends from above to nourish and sustain the world both spiritually and physically.
Then “they went out with them from Ur Chasidim, to go to the land of Canaan.”
Abraham knew and checked all the governors and rulers of the world that had dominion over the entire civilized world. And he was examining all those who govern and rule over the directions of the world’s inhabited land, all those that have dominion over the stars and the constellations. Abraham was inquiring into the spiritual forces that propel the influences called astrology. The science of which he was the greatest master. By study of Astrology Avraham came to knowledge of the the spiritual forces that propel the influences called astrology, By this he came to Be aware of the one superpower over all God. He learned how they exercise their power over one another. In considering all the inhabited places in the world, he did well. But when he reached that place, he saw the force of the depths. And he could not withstand it.
As soon as the Holy One, blessed be He, noticed his awakening and his passion, He immediately revealed Himself to Avraham and said: “Get you out” in order to learn about and perfect yourself. Saying to Abraham “GET YOU OUT” means from that Wisdom with which he studied horoscopes, determined by watching and examining the moment, hour, and time of birth, and the planet and the sign under which one is born. The god was leading Abraham to much higher level of Divine knowledge
The verse, “And from your father’s house,” Never look upon your father’s house again, REFERRING TO CHARAN, Therefore, “Get you out” of this wisdom and this observance. The god was leading Abraham to much higher level of Divine knowledge
We always must be moving Higher, exploring new levels of Spirituality we have not seen or
worked with before. Renew Yourself !
