It is written : ‘and now, Israel, what does God ask from you other than to fear Him?’
Is God on a Wizard of Oz power trip, wanting everyone to be scared of him?
THIS OBVIOUSLY IS NOT IT
The answer it in the worlds that follow “And now, O Israel, what does the Lord your God ask of you but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in all his ways, to love him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and to observe the Lord’s commands and decrees that I am giving you today for your own good?”
There is no fear without awareness. The God want you to be aware of Him. Then you will love him then you will “be able to” “to walk in all his ways, to love him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and to observe the Lord’s commands and decrees”
From here we see the love of God is dependant on fear, and this is dependant on awareness of God. This takes effort to attain. This is only attained by “personal experience”.
The lower level of fear is of Divine punishment because of transgression, but this is not real fear of God as this come from “self love”, one is concerned what will happen with them. The real fear of God is a aspect of awe of his awesome majesty.
The fear of God is His Malchut (Kingship), it includes all the commandments in the Torah, because it is fear that comes from the Torah which is the middle pillar (Tiferet) which is the יהו“ה (God). If a man does not know the rewards of the Torah’s commandments, and punishments for their transgression, how can he fear him ? If a person does not know who gave and commanded to follow the Torah how will he fear him ?(Tikkuny Zohar)
